Default Split window reading pane

I couldn't find this question ... But is there any way to display the email list and reading pane on the same page? So you don't have to click a message to open a new window but can directly read it? Like any email client?

Currently no. However there have been attempts at themes to do this, but require lots of code changes for the core of roundcube. Right now, it's not possible. But in the future, it may be possible.

What's the reason for that? Doesn't any mail client act like that?

yes, but right now they've got plenty of bigger issues rather than layout. Things like getting it working with any IMAP server properly and encoding issues should really come first. I can't see this being put off too far, but it shouldn't be too hard to implement.
