New Install

hello. Im banging my head on a brick wall.

New Install of Roundcube 1.2.2 Complete into vhost Apache2 + PHP7 on Ubuntu 16
I've run the installer and sending (SMTP) / receiving (IMAP) work fine. exim logs the transaction and if i change a setting
i.e. SMTP Auth to an unsupported setting it fails. And is logged as such.

When logging as a normal user it won't send their is no log. I've changed roundcube to log via files and syslog but nothing works.
Exim don't log an errors
I've tried smtp_server as localhost, 127.0.0.1, my internal & external IPs and FQDN no logs or errors. The GUI says "Request timedout" but thats all.

any tips?

Check the Apache logs, since the request is timing out it may have some information.

no all normal both access log and error log
