Absolute impossible to (re)install
« on: January 15, 2017, 07:25:51 AM »
Hello friends,

I've exhausted all variants and really don't know what to do for install on Ubuntu 16.04.
I was using indications from here
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Roundcube

First time, using apt-get install the installation completed without errors then, I tried to follow configure
Code: [Select]
sudo dpkg-reconfigure roundcube-core
Completed somehow but was impossible to connect to my MySQL which however, works perfect with a lot of other programs.
I started again (reconfigure) until some point where
Code: [Select]
sudo dpkg-reconfigure roundcube-corereturn absolute nothing, juste ENTER and nothing.

I tried all stuff like deleting manually all roundcube folders and clean up system, reboot several times
apt-get clean
apt-get update
apt-get upgrade (this however taken 1h to complete)

Now, the same error which drives me crazy
Code: [Select]
sudo apt-get install roundcube roundcube-mysql
Code: [Select]

Please, can someone explain how to solve?
I suspect some thing related to dpkg itself system but really I'm not such expert to track down this issue.

Thank you in advance!

I'd recommend staying from the repo package versions of Roundcube because they almost aways have problems and are out of date. I mean its trying to install Roundcube 1.2 BETA which was released November 23, 2015 The latest in the 1.2.x line (as of posting) is 1.2.3 STABLE released November 28, 2016 do you really want to be running a year old beta version that doesn't have the latest patches?

Hmm, understand.

But how come apt-get install will use a OLD BETA version ??? This is normal?
In fact, I'd chose this install method to be safer than downloading and installing by hand.

I'm confused now.

So you're saying that better download the latest stable tar.gz and install manually?

Thank you.

The packages that are downloaded when use use apt-get are created by package maintainers for the distro that your using not by the Roundcube project. Unfortunately who ever is doing the packaging for Roundcube package doesn't seem to keep up with updates and not necessarily testing the package thats been created.

Yes.

I just installed manually in 5 minutes. I really don't know why on earth I didn't try that and I trusted the easy way :(

Thank you, man!!! Works like a charm.

PS. Moth.. F..er Ubuntu packages. I spent 2 days tracking a idiot error.
