Maybe you can set the 'Rows per page' setting to 4000 and select all messages and delete them, but this value is probably to high. Try it with smaller values

Use 'Folder Empty' at the bottom of the screen (default skin) after selecting the Trash folder

I tried making the pages longer, 50, 100, 150 but it started freezing up on me at around 150... isn't there an Empty Folder option for the Inbox as well?

Looks like it's there, just not highlighted, how do I activate it?

If you have access to the mail server (and it's *nix based) you can reduce the size of the the inbox to zero by using this command as root

i personally do not have access to the mail server, my host does, but I don;t want to have to ask my host to do this every week when i need to dump the bounce backs from my newsletter blasts...

Purge should not be enabled on INBOX. To enable it temporarily add to ./skins/default/templates/mails.html just before closing body tag:





May be you have to increase the delay (here: 5000) for such a hugh mailbox. A permanent enabled purge command needs to run the javascript above at page onload event.
