Mobile Sync for Contacts and Calendar. How?
« on: October 30, 2012, 12:57:34 PM »
Hello,

Im using Roundcube as my webmail interface on my webserver and i love it! But now i bought a Android mobile phone and i have setup my email account using IMAP with my mail server.

But this way i can only sync / have on my mobile phone the emails and folders.

I have read a little about the subjet and i think its related with ActiveSync, Push, CalDAV and/or CardDAV.

So does anyone can clarify me on this? My question is a way or a plugin capable of having/enabling also Contacts and Calendar syncronization with mobile phones?

Thanks

Check http://myroundcube.com. We have a calendar and a carddav plugin which does the job. They are free. If you need assistance to install our plugins, please take a look at our service page (http://myroundcube.com/services-support).

Hi Rosali,

Thanks for your advice. Regarding what you said i have some questions and it would be great if you can respond to them:

1- If i install your "myroundciube" software package i will have mobile syncronization of Contacts and Calendar on mobile phones, correct?

2- What protocols are used in mobile syncronization (webdav, activesync, etc..)?

3- At the momment i have a webserver running Linux / CentOS 64bit / cPanel with Roundcube interface already running.  And i saw on your website that you provide a 89 Euros Installation service. So if i buy the 89 Euros installation service your team will install your software on my server and on the end i will have mobile phone syncronization working, correct?

Thanks

Hi rhweb,

If you use the myroundcube plugins calendar and a caldav backend being SabreDAV plugin or owncloud as I use you can set the calendar plugin to use this as the backend rather than the local rc database.

You then use, which ever tool you want on your phone to connect to the CalDav backend that you are using. For the Apple stuff you can just add the Caldav calendars direct in to the calendar on your iPhone / iPad, I do this for my wife.

For your Andriod phone I just use CalDav-Sync for the calendar.

It's pretty simple.

You can also set up your contacts using CardDAV as well, but that is another story.
