Can't read old e-mail
« on: January 07, 2007, 07:50:11 PM »
Hey guys,

I'm in a bit of a pickle here. I have setup a new webmail server with Roundcube and transferred all of the old e-mail over. For some reason none of it is showing up, I get the e-mail count but that is it.

I have SquirrelMail set up as backup and it's plastered in these messages:
ERROR: Could not complete request.
Unknown response from IMAP server: 1.* NO Cannot open message 2214 * NO Cannot open message 2215 * etc.
Messages are showing up as Unknown sender, Unknown Date, Unknown Subject

Logs aren't showing anything out of place and I can send/read new e-mail just fine. Any tips? Is there something specific I should do before moving the old e-mail to a new server?

Thanks!

How did you transfer the mail?

Old e-mail was stored in /home/user/mail/Maildir
I tar'ed the contents of the folder, ftp'ed it to the new server, unpacked into /virtual/user/

I can now see my old e-mail inside Inbox. The problem was with permissions, for some reason I couldn't get the recursive chmod to work (and still can't) so I had to do each folder manually.

INBOX.Sent and INBOX.Junk still don't show up even though I set up permissions. I'll keep trying. Thanks for the help.

Is the mail server the same on both severs?  If it's not then I would suggest transferring email by syncing.
