SyncKolab/IMAP Contact Folder Support
« on: February 25, 2013, 04:40:14 AM »
Hi,

I run a RoundCube webmail service and currently use SyncKolab (https://addons.mozilla.org/en-us/thunderbird/addon/sync-kolab/) to synchronise my local address book on Thunderbird with an IMAP folder on my server. This works very well and I'm quite pleased I can have a central source of my contacts available - I'm not looking to install any new server applications due to this solution working fine for me.

I have been looking for a plugin for RoundCube to interpret and use these stored contacts so RoundCube can too take advantage of this central repository. RoundCube can 'see' the IMAP folder in my Inbox, but it doesn't seem to do anything with it. I've found a few unsupported, official resources but none of them lead anywhere (http://kolab.org/blog/grote/2012/08/07/alpha-kolab-3.0-and-roundcube-0.8-released and http://git.kolab.org/roundcubemail-plugins-kolab/). I've installed the plugin into RoundCube from the last link and due to the lack of documentation haven't got it doing much in the way of anything.. Not even sure if it's being used but either way, the contacts in this folder are just emails with the following message:

Quote
This is a Kolab Groupware object.
To view this object you will need an email client that can understand the Kolab Groupware format.
For a list of such email clients please visit
http://kolab.org/content/kolab-clients
---
Name: All Clients
---

Notice:
The information above is only valid, if no other client than synckolab updated this message. (ie. a client that updates the attachment but not the message)

..and an XML attachment.

As I understand it RoundCube *is* a supported client (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kolab#Kolab_3.x_clients), but it's obviously not tying in properly...

Is there any support for what I want to do? If so, where am I going wrong? Thank you in advance!

Kolab community provides packages with Roundcube and kolab_* plugins ready to use (preconfigured) with Kolab server.

Hi, thanks for your reply.

As I have gauged yes, RoundCube does come with the Kolab community plugins. My issue is that mine aren't working! I'm also not interested at this time in leasing the services of the Kolab Server I've read about - it's just not an option for me.

Looking in the roundcube/plugins folder, there is no sign that any kolab plugins are included at all.. If that's the case, where can they be found I wonder?

Does anyone from Kolab watch these boards? I've noticed a few have in the past - have you any information as to the support for non-Kolab Server RC installations and their plugins?

alec,

Not to be rude but the link in the original post and your most recent is not the topic of conversation here.

I have found, installed and tried to use this plugin and I'm asking in the post why it doesn't properly work and if there is any wider support for it. I know of its existence already. I'm asking whether anyone has previously used this and if so, what experiences they can share as me - and others like me - have not had any positive outcome in using it!

Ah sorry, I didn't notice that you're an original poster. So, your question

is misleading.

Apolgogies. My initial post is saying "These plugins do not work properly, does anyone have any information having used them before?" and the post you quote is saying "Roundcube does not come with any Kolab plugins - where can working ones be found?". I hope that clears my requests up for you.
