PGP plugin: rc_openpgpjs
« on: July 22, 2013, 02:14:07 PM »
Hi all,

I'm a little surprised there has been no discussion of the new PGP plugin for roundcube. It was announced back in January: http://lists.roundcube.net/pipermail/dev/2013-January/022123.html.

You can download it here: https://github.com/qnrq/rc_openpgpjs.

I installed it and got it working, sort of. Some comments:
  • Sign and Encrypt are enabled by default. But when both options are set, the SEND button doesn't work. You have to switch one of the two off. I can't get these settings to stick, so I have to set them every time.
  • Plain text messages only. HTML emails don't work
Whatever shortcomings it may currently have, the plugin appears to be under active development so hopefully various things will get fixed in due time.

I am wondering whether any one else here has tried it. Your thoughts?

Why is there so few interest in this important thing?
Nobody heard about the big NSA threat?
One of the main reasons I avoid using roundcube now, is this missing encryption thing. Even the old Squirrelmail got it.

Hi!

Okay, it works.
The plugin needs some modifications for rc 1.0beta.
Interesting project!

Rgds.

Great Plugin!
Just installed it easily and it works. The signature (sign the mail) didn't work, but this maybe my fault.

No, not "Great Plugin", but "Great Plugin Idea" only.
This is a bit away from beeing usable.
After only half an hour I had to uninstall it.

1. Each Mail now I get the extremely annoying MessageBox:

Quote
Diese E-Mail wirklich unverschlüsselt und unsigniert versenden?

And there is no CheckBox to avoid this.

2. Quoting mails is not working, quote signs are missing in the quoted mail

3. The keys didn't get saved, I had to reimport them again (I didn't try to reproduce it)

4. the plugin doesn't check, when there is another alternative email address in a public key present, it would only accept the main address

5. each mail gets now a public key attachment, no CheckBox to disable

Unfortunately this are too many bugs.
I don' t have the skills and the time to debug all these, so I wait till they are fixed, coming back maybe later.

Thanks

frank
