Mail at 93% -- why? and what can I do?

I have an account for my own use (for work) and also answer emails in our staff@... account, our general mailbox. In the Staff mailbox, there are many folders and many, many, many messages (more than 10,000). My account is new. Yet only a few months in, I have several folders (a couple dozen) and probably fewer than 500 total emails in all of the folders put together. The little pie chart at the bottom in my account is at 93%. But in the Staff account it is at 0%. I have tried to figure out and/or find out what this little percentage is measuring, but I don't know, and whatever it is, I'm about to max out. I have tried compacting folders, emptying trash, deleting some folders, etc., but to no avail. Any advice is much appreciated.
