Hi,
I have tried editing the login.html in the default skin of 0.3RC1.
How do I get rid of the brackets?

which bit exactly of login.html did you edit? I think you have 2 options:
1) Edit the text for the label in your localisation file (program/localization/) or
2) Make sure the text you want to add is not inside a tag
