Just installed Roundcube 0.3.1 (is that 0.3rc1?) smoothly on a Debian Etch system. I made sure all prerequisites were satisfied, even the optional ones.
What's your PHP version?

Interestingly enough, the "&g" prefix is not shown in the source code on either, i.e.
