It is problem with php extension or configuration... recompile php or upgrade to newest version

i notice in the demo there is an extra menu called account administration i don't have that on mine, is that a separate plugin ?

yest that is a plugin.
the myroundcube demo is connecting to hmail server. the plugins, you are asking about, are to administration of account on that server.

ok I got it working, I needed to add the settings plugin.
