How to use Roundcube Offline for Emails
« on: July 10, 2012, 03:27:16 PM »
Hi There,
Is there anyway to make Roundcube to work offline like Thunderbird ? We have set the Roundcube on our in house server using imap accounts but we would like to be able to use even offline...

No. Roundcube is a web application. By definition there is no way to use a web application offline.

Thank you so much for your reply, but surely there should be a way to make this work ,
in our case
we setup a ubuntu server in house with roundcube on it.
we have set a IMAP account to use
but the problem is everytime it requires to use the NET
i guess if there was a way like Thunderbird to check the new emails every 5min and download and keep it on the server instead of caching in DB

If you want a desktop client then use one like Thunderbird. Roudcube is an IMAP webmail not a mail storage system. Its simply not designed to do that, it needs to connect to the IMAP server to work.

Hi John
The problem with that is ,
we have 10pc and we use the same email imap accounts and it is slowing our PC's down as the emails now over 200gb on each pc
so thats why i was thinking to have the server with Roundcube so all the users will be able to use the roundcube with 1 interface for all the accounts
so users pc will have no problem , all will be on the server side.

i can understand what you saying also but i was hoping there could be a way to customize this for our need

Thank you so much

i'm not sure i understand what it is you are trying to do but have you thought about running an IMAP server on your in house machine and then having fetchmail or something similar get the the new mail off your mail server periodically. Roundcube could then connect to the local imap on your in house server. an imap proxy might do something similar in a less convaluted way i'm not sure. then you'll have a copy of all your email on your inhouse server which rc can access and you dont need internet (other than to get the new mail to the inhouse server).
