Title: development stopped?
Post by: thisisit3 on January 24, 2008, 01:52:09 PM
Has development stopped? I've been looking at the roadmap (http://trac.roundcube.net/roadmap) and nothing has changed for several months.

It's at least quite stalled. That really saddens me as there is still quite a bit potential.

We have mailinglists (http://lists.roundcube.net (http://lists.roundcube.net)), we don't read those forums often. Remember, RoundCube is a webmail?

I also idle on our Freenode channel a lot - #roundcube.

In general, yeah, it stalled and everyone is busy. But for example right now we are working on merging branches to continue with PHP5 and plugin API and generally release more often. But of course I have no ETA whatsoever on this since this is a voluntary effort. But we are not going away.

On a sidenote, I got published this month in php|architect writing about RoundCube and what have planned for the future.

Like other open source products, you could use http://www.fundable.org or Paypal to raise funds for adding certain features to Roundcube. I, like others, use Roundcube for my commercial services and I could reasonably give some money to the project. I imagine you could estimate the cost of each new feature and let the community fund the most useful ones. How does that sound?
