Multiple “imported contacts” groups

Under "personal addresses" in round cube "contacts". I see 40+ groups listed as "imported contacts 1", "Imported contacts 2", up to 40. I didn't import any of these manually. How is this being created?

There are no actual contacts, it's just a blank group.

I can remove each individually. But I'm trying to figure out how it got there and how to stop them from being automatically created.
