Title: Vote for RoundCube Forum!
Post by: Prasad1337 on December 09, 2006, 04:49:57 AM
What would you rate this forum on a scale of 1 to 5 ?

Remember, dont vote for the activity or the statistics of the forum,
but for its layout and the boards in the forum and its integrated look as per RoundCube as well as all the work Brett has employed in making the portal and other things in this forum, as well as all other general features of the forum and the community.

Also state your reason by posting for your vote.

Once again a 5 from me :)

I give it a 2 right now... only because I know what lies ahead ;) Something much better, much more interesting, and a whole new ball-game :D

I'm starting development of it (right now, after I finish this post actually) and hopefully will get 50% of it done today by 4 ;)

new to roundcube. checking out forums, saw this post...

They are decent forums. I gave it a 3 because it works and because it's not busy and full of mods like other boards.

I give it a 4 because I managed to mostly set up roundcube thanks to this, but not a 5 because I posted a topic about my final problem and it hasnt been replied or viewed in more than an hour, which I hate, because I am impatient

Thanks for the compliment. By keeping the mods down, I keep the speed of the board up. Too many mods for somewhat useless things (like karma or extra sig space or whatever) tends to slow down the board. Don't worry, I'll add some if you find that the features are needed.

Understandable. But you have to remember, we're not here all the time just waiting to answer questions, we have other things to do.

I give it a 5 because i think that concerning the work you've done by making the webmail project, then the forum doesn't have to be perfect but right now its pretty gud!

I gave it a 3 for a reason, I think the mybb forum is a better forum software, but I can't wait to see that surprise.

I have to disagree. This Comparison matrix (http://www.forummatrix.org/compare/MyBB+SMF) shows SMF as having more moderation and anti-spam features than myBB, and I find the SMF code-base a whole lot easier to handle than MyBB.

But that little surprise is coming along nicely. Not sure when exactly I'll finish, but it will be a good surprise :)

Nice link, Thanks! I have also found that mybb is harder to code for and has a less stable code base.

Well, technically their SMF info is outdated as well. 2.0 has more features than listed, is free, and is of the same quality as vB or IPB.

myBB still doesn't allow WAP access, still no pruning or archiving, need a plugin for the WYSIWYG (SMF 2.0 doesn't have plug-in, it's built in). I still see no reason to switch to myBB.

yeah, plus it looks like myBB is just a hack of older phpBB code with AJAX thrown in....

I'm not trying to make you switch, I was just adding a point. Although I do beg to differ, mybb was built from scratch, however mybb is still very young and it just needs some time to improve. Btw, I love the e-mail system, I can't wait to get it running on my server.  :D

Good, cuz I wasn't going to :)

I know. And I was just adding my point that before I settled on SMF I ended up starting with phpBB (for like a week or two) while I researched better forum software. I even considered purchasing IPB perpetual license or vB Owned license. Ultimately I settled on SMF due to the cost, and how close it was to those other "enterprise" grade softwares.

I'm sure in time it will either grow to out-do phpBB, or it will flounder much like many of the other BB software titles out there. It's a shame to see the projects die, but really lots of development needs to be put in so it can stay "ahead of the game".

Great!! Glad you love the system.

I gave it a 1
Poor support, very very bad english from some of the users that sometimes just make their posts unreadable.
Poor documentation and reference material.

SoulManager: Thanks for the honest input.

As for the support, not everyone here is a developer, and many users don't know PHP very well. So some try to help out where they can ;)

English isn't everyones first language, so sometimes you have to decipher meaning. That doesn't mean that I'd like people posting in their native language, but if they want to, they can. I'd just prefer that if you say something in another language, you try and give an English translation for it.

Documentation and references I can't really do anything about other than say, fix it :( It's a wiki, so if you have something you think should be added, feel free to edit the content to enhance it (if you can). This is a community supported project, so the best you can do is participate to make it better ;)

Too many dumb questions from newbies. I think RC needs better documentation!

I gave it 5 for the ambicious work of developers, but for RC i would give 4, as there is still some basic things missing. But the program itself is very simple and nice. Keep up the good work guys
Title: forum ratings
Post by: grooverdan on April 26, 2009, 12:57:37 AM
I gave a rating not sure if 1 or 5 was the highest.

Joining up comments:

I found joining up that there was yet another registration after already completing trac and lists. Some integration would be nice. Yes I know its a bit hard. Alternately using something like openid to reduce the barrier of entry.

The other joining up hastle was I thought the number of antispam barriers was too much.

On what it is:

Seems like a good layout of Forums. Well done. There is some duplication between trac and here as far as feature requests and bugs. As long as that is managed well on the developer side I don't see too much of a problem.
