Title: umich skin
Post by: ksteinhoff on November 17, 2008, 04:21:17 PM
While deploying RoundCube at the University of Michigan we developed a new skin. It is a modern, open interface with tools and actions arranged with optimal usability in mind. Light color blocks and borders delineate application areas without drawing too much attention or drawing focus away from the content. (We have changed many of the strings in labels.inc file to reduce the length of some labels.)

The default strings in labels.inc (e.g. program/localization/en_US/labels.inc) are rather long because they are used as tool tips in the default skin. The umich skin displays the strings as part of the buttons.

You should be able to fix this by editing your labels.inc file to use shorter strings for those buttons. For example, use "Reply," "Reply All," "Forward," etc.

Great theme, keep up the good work. But I think there is a bug in the skin with IE7. Other pages are fine except for the mail (inbox)page. Firefox works just fine.

Yann and pcnyla,

It looks like the horizontal divider bar is being placed at the bottom of the screen. You should be able to drag it up to a better position. We saw this problem too, but the divider was placed at the top of the screen (we think that's fixed).

Did this happen randomly? Or after a window resize, or something? If you can provide steps to reproduce the problem, it will help in finding a fix.

firefox told me that the codification would be not correct, because i edited the labels.inc file with the Windows-Editor. Then i tried to edit it with the HTML-Editor Phase 5 and it worked :-). So it was just a noob-question, because i thought i could simply edit it with the Editor.

But there is still one question... :-D.

where are the buttons to ex- or import contacts from / to my addressbook?

greets and thanks for the fast reply,

The problem is if you check Show preview pane, it works fine (with the preview pane). But if the preview pane is unchecked (off), the bottom of the mail page looks like the picture in my previous post http://www.roundcubeforum.net/theme-releases/3850-umich-skin.html. Once again, there is no problem in firefox, only in IE (and I'm using IE7).

We don't use those features in our service, so we didn't include them in the skin, sorry. We may add them in the future.

Thanks for the clarification, Yann. I've replicated the behavior in IE6 as well. This is a bug with IE when the preview pane is off.

We have installed your umich theme on a Roundcube v0.2b system that we are evaluating for possible offer to our users as an alternative to Squirrelmail. Love clean the looks of the theme. But we have discovered an odd bug in how the folder list accepts messages by dragging if the folder list is so long that it needs to be scrolled down prior to dragging. The default theme does not exhibit this behavior. I'd like to discuss this with whoever is the maintainer of the skin, if possible. I can't take a screen shot to show this since I can't capture the drag. any ideas?

What a great Skin.
However I have tried it on two computers one with a low screen size.
The Print this message gets pushed onto another line under Reply to sender.

Is there a fix so the button isnt moved?

You could try making the strings in the labels.inc file shorter for the buttons on that row.

(see "program/localization/en_US/labels.inc" or whichever language you're using.)

This is consistent, once it was pointed out to me it does it every time I test it. I have tested using Firefox 3 (both Mac and PC) and Safari. Firefox 3.1 beta (Mac) also does it. Haven't tried IE as we don't use it.

To duplicate, use an account with a number of IMAP folders. If they all fit in your window (no scroll bar shown) it works as normal. Drag a message and the destination folder(s) highlight with yellow under the cursor as expected.

Now shorten the depth of your window so that the folder list shows a scroll bar. Make certain to shorten the window enough so that several folders at the bottom of the list are out of view. If you drag while the scroll bar is at the top (default position) it still works as expected.

Now scroll down in the folder list. Drag a message into the folder list. Note that the yellow highlight is several folders up the list. In fact, the highlighted destination folder is above the cursor by how ever many folders you scrolled down. If you scroll down 3 folders, the highlighted destination is 3 folders above the cursor. If you scroll down 10 folders, the highlighted folder is 10 folders up the list. As you can see, it is easy for the highlighted destination folder to even be off the screen and invisible. Worse, if you release the message, it is moved into the folder that is highlighted, NOT the folder under the cursor. This can cause misplaced messages very easily.

This behavior is not evident in the default skin, where scrolling does not affect the correct function. My guess is that the folder list is not being refreshed in some way after scrolling.

In case you can not duplicate this on your system, I can provide a test account on mine, if necessary. I can be emailed at aberglund (at) lesd.k12.or.us

Is "#messagetoolbar a:hover" in mail.css what you're looking for?

Hi there,

Thanks for your response. In continuing my customisations, I need some assistance on one further point, principally where do I need to look to edit the colour of the wording that displays 'Inbox' and 'Messages 1 to 5 of 5' as showin in the attached image? Ideally I'd like to set this to white. As you'll see, I've made a number of changes to colours, to keep in line with our company branding.Many thanks in advance.

mail.css (line 230)

To figure these things out, I recommend using Firefox with the Firebug extension. Firebug adds an "Inspect Element" option to the contextual menu. When you right-click on an element and choose "Inspect Element," Firebug will show you the element's HTML and the CSS (and will show you the file and line numbers where the CSS is defined).

Title: Enhacements
Post by: flesicek on January 05, 2009, 06:19:32 PM
Hello ksteinhoff,

First of all, it is very very nice skin.

is it possible to implement following enhacements into your skin?
1) Add into actions menu following links related to folder management: Compact and Empty
2) When preview panel with html message is longer than window it isn't wraped as it is done in default skin
3) In preferencies move button save out of scrolling section as it is done in default skinn

Which buttons do you use in the skin (I would like to add import or other buttons) and I'm looking for compatible icons.

Thanks a lot

Jozef
Title: Dragging bug fixed
Post by: ABerglund on February 05, 2009, 02:54:32 PM
I was able to find and correct the dragging bug described in post #19 (http://www.roundcubeforum.net/theme-releases/3850-umich-skin-2.html#post15749) in this thread. The fix is to add 'position:relative;' in two places in the mail.css file. One is in the 'mailboxlist' section (line 440) and the other is the 'mailboxlist li a' section (line 514). Like so:

Code: [Select]
#mailboxlist
{
    position:relative;  /* fix for dragging bug */
    width: 100%;
    height: auto;
    margin: 0px;
    padding: 0px;
    list-style-image: none;
    list-style-type: none;
    overflow: hidden;
    white-space: nowrap;
}

Code: [Select]
#mailboxlist li a
{
  display: block;
  position: relative; /* fix for dragging bug */
  padding-left: 25px;
  padding-top: 2px;
  padding-bottom: 2px;
  text-decoration: none;
}

This has fixed the problem, and we are now preparing to go into production with it.

I have communicated this with the original developer team, and they will incorporate this into the next release of this skin.

Title: Folder Icons
Post by: uschinator on February 07, 2009, 07:29:49 AM
Hi,

the first screenshot of this thread is showing different icons for "Drafts", "Inbox" etc. than my configuration does right now. I just get an icon for the Inbox (see attachment). All Other Folders have the blue standard icon for the folders. How can i get the icons work which are saved in "skins\umich\images\icons". I Checked the path and they are in this directory.

the mail.css of the skin looks like that and i think this should be all right as well:

Code: [Select]
#mailboxlist li.inbox
{
  background-image: url(images/icons/folder-inbox.png);
}

#mailboxlist li.draftsrcfolder
{
  background-image: url(images/icons/folder-drafts.png);
}

#mailboxlist li.sentrcfolder
{
  background-image: url(images/icons/folder-sent.png);
}

#mailboxlist li.junkrcfolder
{
  background-image: url(images/icons/folder-junk.png);
}

#mailboxlist li.trashrcfolder
{
  background-image: url(images/icons/folder-trash.png);

I don't understand, why there are shown the blue folder icons instead of the icons which are defined in the mail.css?

Can somebody help?
Title: HTML-Editor Bug
Post by: uschinator on February 07, 2009, 08:41:28 AM
Hello again,

when I select the default skin I can switch between the Text-Editor and the HTML-Editor to create a new message -> works fine!

when I select the umich-skin I am able to switch between the two editors, but when I select the HTML-Editor, then the Interface with the format-tags in the header of the Textbox won't appear.

I think it is caused by upgrading to the new 0.2stable version. I never had problems with switching the editors in the 0.2beta version.

Can somebody fix this bug?

thanks

Did you select the special folders in the 'Personal Settings' ?
Title: umich skin
Post by: uschinator on February 09, 2009, 06:08:15 AM
yes, of course. when i login for the first time, i configured the main.inc.php that the special folders will be created. they are also defined in the preferences under "special folders"....
Title: umich skin
Post by: rosali on February 09, 2009, 06:54:50 AM
If you define your special folders f.e.

$rcmail_config['default_imap_folders'] = array('INBOX', 'Drafts', 'Sent', 'Junk', 'Trash');

and ...

$rcmail_config['junk_mbox'] = 'junk';

... then you won't get the right icon for the junk box, because it is case sensitive. Check if your special folders on the IMAP server have the same case as defined in main.inc.php !

Hi,

I fixed this problem by customizing the compose.html to get the html-editor working with the umich-skin on the RoundCube version 0.2stable.
I added
Code: [Select]
editorid="compose-body" like in the default skin and it works fine. So the code for compose.html should look like this in line 140:

Code: [Select]

I changed the entries in the mail.css and the icons are now displayed!
For every entry, you have to delete the "rcfolder"-string, for example:
"#mailboxlist li.junkrcfolder -> #mailboxlist li.junk"

The Code without the "rcfolder"-strings should then look like this:
Code: [Select]
#mailboxlist li.inbox
{
  background-image: url(images/icons/folder-inbox.png);
}

#mailboxlist li.drafts
{
  background-image: url(images/icons/folder-drafts.png);
}

#mailboxlist li.sent
{
  background-image: url(images/icons/folder-sent.png);
}

#mailboxlist li.junk
{
  background-image: url(images/icons/folder-junk.png);
}

#mailboxlist li.trash
{
  background-image: url(images/icons/folder-trash.png);

I modify the file

vi skins/umich/templates/mail.html

and add the quota in div checkMail-container:

from:

[COLOR="Navy]to[/COLOR]

[COLOR="#000080]

[/COLOR]

now in skins/umich/mail.css

add or modify the linein blue:

#checkMail-container {
        position: absolute;
        top: 121px;
        left: 12px;
        background: #eff5ff;
[COLOR="#000080]        height: 50px;[/COLOR]
        width: 178px;
        border-left: 1px solid #c0bdb2;
        border-right: 1px solid #c0bdb2;
        padding-left: 12px;
        text-align: center;
}

#mailboxlist-container
{
  position: absolute;
  top: 170px;
  left: 12px;
  width: 190px;
  bottom: 43px;
  border: 1px solid #c0bdb2;
  background-color: #ffffff;
  overflow: auto;
  /* css hack for IE */
  height: expression((parseInt(document.documentElement.clientHeight)-188)+'px');
}

#quotadisplay
{
  color: #666666;
  font-size: 11px;
  text-align: center;
}

I think that's all, whether I forgot something, please tell me!!!

(I tried to remove the smile icon, but unsucessfully, I don't know how to)

Hi all,

i've followed all threads, installed all fixed 'till here, but there is something strange with my umich skin, in firefox all is pretty good, smooth and fine, when trying to open it with internet explorer 7.0.5730.13 version I can login correctly but after this i can see only header with roundcube_logo.png in left corner, username logged in , taskbar on right and all is unclickable.... :eek:

What could be? Can I post something to help you in troubleshooting?

Update: Upper fixed, wrong commented line

PS: There is no way to reduce attached images over 1024x768 into thumbnail and to manage spam/not spam messages?

To fix the IE issue with the message list box overlapping at the bottom... Change the following in mail.css under #mailcontframe.
Change:
Code: [Select]
height: expression((parseInt(document.documentElement.clientHeight)-110)+'px');To:
Code: [Select]
height: expression((parseInt(document.documentElement.clientHeight)-200)+'px');
That should fix it for you.

Hmm.. That was the fix for me. Are you sure you did it in mail.css under #mailcontframe?

I believe there are multiple lines of the same thing in the CSS so if you did a search, you may have done it to the wrong one.

We don't use those features in our service, so we didn't include them in the skin, sorry. We may add them in the future.

Hi, i really like the skin. I added the import/export vcards features because my company need those features.
Code: [Select]

<roundcube:button command="import" imageSel="/images/buttons/adr_import_sel.png" ima
geAct="/images/buttons/adr_import_act.png" imagePas="/images/buttons/adr_import_pas.
png" width="22" height="22" title="importcontacts" label="importcontacts" align="absmiddle"/>
<roundcube:button command="export" imageSel="/images/buttons/download_sel.png" image
Act="/images/buttons/download_act.png" imagePas="/images/buttons/download_pas.png" width="22" height="22" title="exportvcards" label="exportvcards" align="absmiddle"/>

between

png and adr_import_act.png are in /images/buttons directory

Enjoy!

This version will probably work with 0.3RC ( I haven't tested it), but based on experiences by users using others skins, you might have to copy the splitter.js from the default skin to the umich skin and clear your cache.

I notice there are weird views with 0.3RC.
Some objects on screen are stacked.

I've also noticed that the personal setting don't work.

We haven't started using the umich skin with RoundCube 0.3 yet. Once we have a useful skin that works well with 0.3, we'll post it here.

Hi, I'm currently using umich skin. It works fine. But I have some problem :

I don't know how to solve this problem.

1. What search option doesn't appear?
2. In you /config/main.inc.php change $rcmail_config['enable_spellcheck'] to TRUE.

This is default theme. There are options in searching : Subject, Sender, etc.
This is screenshot from default skin :

Now, when I'm using umich skin there is no drop down menu in search. This is the screenshot:

Is there any solution to enable search option in umich skin? Please help me

The umich skin was designed for version 0.2.0, so any features added after that (like the search fields) may not work when this skin is loaded on later versions. Wait for a revised version for 0.3.1...

Any idea when you might be ready to release an updated version? It's a very nice skin, I like it much better than the default with Tango icons...

I'm not one of the developers, just an early adopter and supporter of this skin. It is being developed by a team at the University of Michigan. I have not heard of any ETA yet.

My mistake... I noted you contributed a lot to this thread, and based on your posts, thought you were involved in the development. If you "talk" to any of the developers, make sure they know there's several of us (maybe more than several) who are looking forward to a new release of their great skin!
Title: Still working on 0.3 update
Post by: zibas on November 09, 2009, 02:34:42 PM
Hi All,
I'm leading the work updating the Michigan skin. I thought people might like a quick update. I don't have an ETA, but I do have a bag full of excuses why it's taking so long!

In short:

* Some parts of the skin should have been plugins, we're fixing that
* Last time we took shortcuts. This time I'd rather submit improvements to the skinning system than make temporary workarounds in this skin.
* The goal is to make future updates much less painful

Patches welcome :)

Cheers,
Ziba
