setting up RoundCube with PHP installed as CGI

I just moved to a new host who has php installed as cgi.

How do I set up roundcube with that?

I can't use the settings in .htaccess (php_flag is what they said) but I can use my own php.ini

made a few attempts but not getting any where?

any ideas?
