Title: SMTP Error (-1) Connection to server has failed - can not sending mail

I installed RoundCube on a subdomain (mail.site.com) and I can receive mail but when sending a mail receive the following error:

 SMTP Error (-1) Connection to server failed.

If I try with outlook (using Windows Live Mail) can send mail without any problems.
 The logs from cPanel Eoror I found this error:

It sounds like a firewall is blocking the connection from the server.

i have the same issue - no firewall issue as the roundcube installation is running on same localhost as hmailserver.

snippet of error log:

Enable smtp_debug and check the log.

i have the same issue using [0.3.1] - not the latest version i know. i have smtp_debug enabled and happy to post / let an admin poke around.

i get the Invalid response code received from server (-1) every so often, for the first few attempts to send a message, then every so often it says message sent and it gets received.

edit:

if i keep clicking send message, it eventually gets sent..... every other time it doesn't, i get the same as above

have upgraded from 0.3.1 to 0.5.1. am still getting errors:
