Title: Roundcube install for newbs?
Post by: S2k on July 10, 2008, 03:52:11 PM
Hi Everyone, this is my first post on here! I am a designer and not too savy with the back-end web stuff. I have a shared server from Media temple that I have had for a few years. It has SquirrelMail on it currently. I get alot of spam and I am not happy with the interface at all. Roundcube looks much better.

My questions are:

Can I install it?, My server has PHP 4.4.1 and MySQL 3.23.58.
Could a layman with good directions install something like this, assuming the SquirrelMail would have to be removed? Sorry I am not really familiar with what's involved. Any help or guidance is appreciated.

Thanks

I don't think that RoundCube will work with MySQL which isn't at least 4.0.  So MediaTemple will have to update.  They really should as they're now almost 2 full versions behind.  MySQL 5.0 has been out for a while, and MySQL 4.0 for years.  If you can get them to upgrade, then yes, RoundCube will work with php4 and MySQL 4.  Although you should try to get them to offer php5 as well.
