hi there,
first of all, thanks of the hard work. RoundCube seems to be just great.
i'm a bit new at the linux thing (ubuntu server) so i'm trying to figured out the best way to get a roundcube install up and running
**AND**
ease the maintaince pain when i'll have to update RoundCube, which is bound to occur a few times a year.
So i would rather use the "apt-get update" tool, which seems to be doing exactly that with all my server.
so I installed a Roundcube doing a apt-get install roundcube
however I got a 0.1.rc1 version installed (instead of an expect 0.2stable)
i know it's related the repo I got the app from, not roundcube itself.
However, I would like to get the RoundCube users point of view:
what kind of technique do you use to update roundcube quickly and safely?
thanks
ps: btw i'm struggling to login with this 0.1rc1 version, but it might be related to my courier-imap/postfix setup, i dont know. i'll give it a try with a manually installed RoundCube 0.2stable later today i guess
Installation:
I've downloaded the tar.gz file and unarchived it in a temp location and followed the instructions as mentioned in the file INSTALL (In my case with MySQL).
Update:
I've downloaded the tar.gz file and unarchived it in a temp location and followed the instructions as mentioned in the file UPGRADING (I've used the installer-page in my browser.
Hi Julius,
Thanks. I tried the
download latest .tar.gz
unpack
follow UPGRADE instruction etc
it does work.
But it's not really my question in fact.
If I go for roundcube, then I would like it to integrate nicely within the rest of the server update/upgrade process. Basically I use a single apt-get line. I feel comfortable with such an ease. It generates trust. I can think of more important stuff this way.
So if my understanding is correct the best and easiest way to upgrade roundcube is through manual .tar.gz manipulation
can someone confirm plz?
thx
I agree with you that it is not the easiest way (I prefer, as Fedora user, yum -y update), but RC in the fedora-repo is currently the 0.2-beta:
roundcubemail.noarch 0.2-5.beta.fc9
