Title: RC 0.3 extremely slow or timing out
Post by: netlink-ie on September 17, 2009, 01:29:24 AM
Hi!

I just upgraded from 0.1.1 to 0.3-stable.

I used to have a problem with RC whereby very large mailboxes took forever to load. Looking into this, I found that setting DISABLETHREADSORT=1 in my courier-imap config and setting caching in RC off fixed this issue, and my mailboxes with about 20-60k messages loaded super fast.

However, I have now upgraded to RC 0.3-stable and the issue is back for me. Small mailboxes are fine, but larger ones will take several minutes to load if it doesn't time out.

I've been looking and playing around with this for hours, but I cannot seem to get it to work.

Any help would be very much appreciated.

Thanks!

I've seen a few comments along the lines "the only way to avoid this issue is to install a different IMAP server".

I have now changed from Courier to Dovecot. However, the only reason I did this was because I actually like Roundcube and some of my clients have gotten very used to it. So, in other words, Courier has actually been working fine for me the past 5 or so years, and every other IMAP client, including earlier versions of Roundcube worked fine with Courier.

It also has to be said that Courier is a very popular IMAP server, and it would be nice to have it fully supported.

Another thing I have to say is this: Roundcube 0.1.1 with Courier (with THREADSORT disabled) was still a lot faster than Roundcube 0.3 with Dovecot. The mailbox I used for testing has close to 22,800 messages as of now.
