This does not seem to be possible from "My Profile" or "Settings"?

I agree. Every time I see the dd.mm.yyyy format I say WHAT?... Oh, yeah. dammit. And since the column headers scroll up with the list -- which they have no business doing -- I have to lose my place to see or change the sort order.
