How to setup with a custom server

I have a windows machine that is running xampp, with a mercury 4.6 install. As we all know mercury is very confusing but I managed to setup the server. I have a dyndns domain setup at recksite.org. Basically when I send an email from my gmail to my new recksite email setup ([email protected]) it shows up in the status windows in the mercury software. But when I try to setup the system in roundcube it goes no where. I also cannot add the account in outlook or thunderbird. Which leads me to think that I have something setup incorrectly in my mercury setup. I also tried using hmailserver, but again I cannot get it to setup to connect to the smtp or imap server in thunderbird or the roundcube webmail interface. Can someone explain to me in great detail how to set this email server up correctly then how to setup roundcube correctly? This is much appreciated if you can help me. I think It could also have to do with the fact that it is a dyndns system.
