Default settings in 'Compose'

Firstly, as a new user, many thanks to those of you who developed, contributed to the development of, and continue to improve, this software - you've done a fantastic job!

I'd really like to see two enhancements in any future releases.

Firstly, it is very frustrating not to be able to alter the default settings (I'm thinking especially of font family and size) in the 'Compose' function - might this be able to be changed?

Secondly, it would be handy to be able to adjust the width of the columns in the folders by clicking and dragging - as with most other applications.
