deleting multiple emails in inbox

I currently have 430,000 emails in my inbox. i have no idea how. i have saved all the ones i needed to in a separate folder, and am trying to delete  the unwanted messages in my inbox.  When i click on select all then press the trash to move them, the connection times out. So i am reduced to deleting 200 at a time. This will take forever. Any other ways to delete multiple messages without the connection timing out?
