mailbox format

hi i have this question im planing to use roudecube but dont know if roudecube will read the mailbox mail storage format that im using now, do i have to change it to Maildir or roundecube interacts with IMAP and not directly with the system?

Roundcube uses IMAP, so the mailbox format is immaterial.
