Database connection error (the usual killer!)

Hello all,

I am new to roundcube. I tried to install roundcube on my ubuntu 14.04-nginx-mysql server. The official documentation on the roundcube.net website pointed to this tutorial:

I started with that until I realized that it was an outdated tutorial. It uses an old version. When I tried to access server_root/installed_location/installer from my browser, it was redirected to server_root/installed_location/index.php which gave me a db.inc.php not found error.

I then went to /installed_location/config and created a copy of db.inc.php.something to db.inc.php and one other similar sounding file. I edited the db.inc.php file to add the correct database details (after creating them, as described in the tutorial).

This time, I got the cannot connect to database error. I don't know how to fix it. Any help will be greatly appreciated.
