Unable to compose

I have run into a strange issue where after a while I am unable to compose a new email.  If I hit compose, the compose message appears, as if I can create a new email, then its like it refreshes and kicks me back to the Mail screen.
Troubleshooting Steps:
1. Revert back to original Default skin
2. Disable all plugins
3. Flush Cache

has anyone come across this and knows how to fix it ?
