I use my Roundcube to pick up email from a variety of sources, including Gmail, but the latter has failed to authenticate with the Google IMAP servers in the past 24 hours.

To help keep your account secure, from May 30, 2022, ​​Google no longer supports the use of third-party apps or devices which ask you to sign in to your Google Account using only your username and password.

I can't see any obvious work around to this. Any suggestions gratefully received.

If you want to keep accessing GMail you have to setup OAuth. See the details in the default config file: https://github.com/roundcube/roundcubemail/blob/release-1.5/config/defaults.inc.php#L328-L403
