I am trying to understand if I can use RoundCube as a front-end for my existing, professional-grade email host, MailTrust.

I have communicated with their support team, and they're open to me trying it, I'm just not sure how it would tie together, if at all.

I see during installation you need to add a DB and a email server, but can't I set it up so that I use MailTrust as those things instead of my own?

Thanks.

The Roundcube will act as a client for mail service that you use (like usually other client: Outlook, Thunderbird, TheBat! etc.), the main difference between them that the Roundcube has the web-interface.

So all that you need is a hosting service with Web- (e.g. Apache) and DB-server installed (e.g. MySQL), in that database  roundcube will save it's internal data, the user profiles and regional settings.

Next, during roundcube installation you must specify your database settings, and your existing mail-server host from that you want to retrieve emails / send emails.
