Remove ">" from replies?

Hi, can somebody please tell me what I need to edit to remove the > chevron from the new lines in a reply.
A client's request.

I see that in line 1256 of func.inc it says  Rebuild the line with '> ' at the beginning of each 'subline', so one would assume that it is this part that deals with it, but I haven't a clue what to change!
