Inbox shows # of unread emails

The Inbox shows that there are (2) unread emails, but in reality there are none that have not been opened/read.  Is this bug something that has been already discovered?   This occurred in the last couple of weeks (late Dec - early Jan).  It seemed to start after I had deleted several unwanted emails from a specific source.
