DATABASE ERROR: CONNECTION FAILED!

hi,
i have been installed latest stable roundcube and have problem to run it/login in to:
when try to access: http://domain/mail, then:

DATABASE ERROR: CONNECTION FAILED!
Unable to connect to the database!
Please contact your server-administrator.

there is an error message in apache error_log file:

database exists and login/password works, also i have been installed all pear extensions/plugins requied, like:
Structures_DataGrid*, HTML_QuickForm2, Net_IDNA2, Validate.

system is slackware-13.37(64bit), apache-2.2.21, php-5.3.8, mysql-5.1.59.
where is the problem? (i dont have knowledge in php/mysql code)

Did you run the web-installer to initialize the database?
