synching webmail to new phone

Hello,

I had to synch my webmail accounts with my new phone and for some reason, some of my new emails show up as"read" even though I have not opened the email. Is there anyway to fix this issue? I did IMAP to synch it.
I am not too familiar with this so any advice would help out.

Make sure your new phone isn't using POP to download mail.
