Including external PHP file

I want to include a PHP file into the theme that's outside of Roundcube install folder. This is important because that file is used in other applications besides Roundcube. A problem is it seems that I can't include anything outside of template folder, even if I use the absolute path.

Any ideas?

Did you try a symlink with appropriate file permissions?
