unreadable file in maildir

hi...I had meant to create a maildir Folder but forgot to. So instead of emails going into that maildir folder, call it INBOX.office which has now been created and is working normally, I ended up with a single file by the same name (as configured in .mailfilter ie INBOX.office) which is unreadable...
I thought it might be some type of mbox file...
Any suggestions please (am new here, from Downunder!)

This is something done by your mail sever not by Roundcube. Probably the file is in mbox format. You can find tools for mbox to maildir conversion online.
