Hi,

I want to install roundcube on my server to retrieve emails from gmail through imap. However my server has limited bandwidth sources. So the question is; if I start retrieving emails from gmail, does roundcube use my server's bandwidth or only the client user bandwidth? I mean does it run on the client side or server side? I know that the application itself runs on server side but I mean the email retrieval process.

Thanks

The emails would be retrieved by the server but images in html email would be retrieved by the client. How much bandwidth do you have? E-mails aren't that large so I don't think you should have a bandwidth problem.

Actually many people will use roundcube on my server, so there will be lots of emails. I know that plain text email would not cost too much but I would prefer a totally client side app. even for the retrieval of text emails. So do you know if  such thing exists? It can also be a java app running in the browser like a desktop app. Do you have any idea?

I haven't head of any web based fully client side email client. I'd recommended getting more bandwidth, there is some cheap places to get a lot of bandwidth.

What about sending mail via smtp with roundcube through gmail? Are the attchments and images go through my server or directly through gmail?

SKaero

They would be uploaded to your server first then when the draft is saved or sent it would sent to GMail's servers.
