Assign different SMTP Server to a user

Hi!
Is there any possibility to assign a smtp server based on the userid from a database or something?
Does overwriting the smtp_host varible upon login solve the problem? Background is, that I need to distinguish between 2 different account types and one of them needs some different mailserver/port for them.

Any ideas?

You can do it with a plugin, look at the accounts plugin as an example.
