Show real names for special folders - A review of internet answers to questions about what this feature is about for, to me are misleading. The most common answer is, "with this setting enabled, the original names of the assigned special folders are displayed in the folder list instead of localized names." To me the opposite is true. The original names in Roundcube are Draft, Sent, Junk, Trash and you can map these with Settings - Preferences – Special Folders to the folder names your email client (ie Outlook) sets up, such as: Draft, Sent Items, Spam, Deleted Items. I'm not sure why these are referred to as localized names, because they are synced with your own particular email server, they don't just reside on your computer. With the option "Show real names for special folders" turned on, the email client names are shown in Roundcube's Folders option and the Inbox folders in Roundcube's Mail, not the "original" Draft Sent Junk Trash names. And this setting, " Show real names for special folders ", doesn't affect how the email client displays anything, it just affects the UI in Roundcube.

Your description is correct. Roundcube is an IMAP client and the setting only has an effect inside Roundcube. If show real names is enabled then Roundcube will display the folder name it received from the IMAP server for the folder, if not it will show the localised name. Roundcube cannot affect how Outlook or any other client names/displays the folder.

For central control of special folders across all mail clients check if your IMAP server supports the special-use extension.
