Imap server settings

Gentlemen,
 
The final step when installing / configuring RC is to test smtp and imap.
What ever I use for Imap ( server, username and password ) it returns NOT OK

I am sure that imap service is running, checked in ispconfig control panel and with nmap localhost | grep 143.
With telnet localhost 143 it waits for a servername and a password but if I only knew i did not have to write this thread ...

Please point me in the right direction

What settings do you use in a regular client like i.e Thunderbird?

Did a quick google to know what Thunderbird is In Outlook the settings are  for incoming mail : mail.something.org and a password and for outgoing it is the same.

Now you are going to tell me this is the answser ...
