rcube_shared.inc line 597 unexpected T_OBJECT_OPERATOR

I saw this issue in this thread:

And it was said it was a PHP issue. I meet the PHP and MySQL requirements listed here:

I run PHP 5.2.9, MySQL 5.0.81, Apache    2.2.13. The error I get when I open up the installer is this:

Parse error: syntax error, unexpected T_OBJECT_OPERATOR in /home/frogbayo/public_html/mail/program/include/rcube_shared.inc on line 597



Any ideas on how to fix it? I've looked and can't find anything...
