Inbox messages vanishing

I have had users report that all the messages vanish from their Inbox.
The disappeared messages cannot be found in the trash or anywhere else.
Does anyone have any ideas about this?

Do you use any other clients to access your email, like a POP3 one. most likely solution is that a different client is set to download the mail from the server.

I realize that could be the the issue but I have had this happen to clients who insist that they only use the webmail interface. They have said that the messages will vanish while they are using roundcube.

Users always say so, so don't get fooled :) The good advice here is however to tell customer to change his account password. That would stop all other mailers from connecting and fetching mails unnoticed.
