User Register not possible

I installed the plugin register but it is not possible to add a new user. An alert pops up: User can not be added

User registration has to be done on the imap server backend or wherever you administer your users. My register plugin has a driver to register users on hMailserver IMAP. It won't work of other backends.

Can you give me some pointers on how to get the Register plugin to work?
I can't find any installation doc.
